CMLessons began before it was even a company. CMLessons founder, John, began providing piano and voice lessons in his home studio in Houston. Word of mouth spread, and he formed a pretty nice side business called Contemporary Music Lessons.
HIs goal was to provide music lessons that didn’t focus too much of sight reading and sheet music, but something that would inspire kids and adults to play the instrument while being able to understand music. When asked why he chose this method of teaching, he responded:
“I don’t really think the majority of people care to learn traditional genres of music like they teach in public and private schools. I think they just want to play the instrument. If I can teach a kid how to play the piano while at the same time providing a well-rounded understanding in music, I’ve accomplished my job as an instructor.”
Soon John had to hire a guitar instructor because he was no longer able to keep up with the students that wanted to take music lessons. He saw the business opportunity and the desire so many people had to learn an instrument and formalized the business known today as CMLessons. “Contemporary Music Lessons was too long, so we called it CMLessons, and that stuck.”
Today CMLessons is teaching in churches, home and professional studios, local Boys and Girls Clubs and other locations around the Houston area. The company is even now providing online lessons for those who want it. They’ve come a long way in such little time, and they hope to continue growing. Some final words from the founder and owner of the company, “Our vision is to be able to offer a combination of the best and most affordable music lessons on the market to anyone in the world. We may not be there yet, but we’re off to a great start.”
I am progressing with each lesson thanks to John's ability to teach. His professionalism and knowledge are well worth the investment! And thankfully the price is super reasonable!
